What are Rich Snippets and how do they work?

What are Rich Snippets?

Rich Snippets is structured data markup that can be added to a web page, which allows search engines to better understand what information is contained within this page. In our specific case you can add the average rating received on ProductReview.com.au for your company (or product) to your "about us" or a "dedicated review" page to show stars in Google Search Result Pages (SERPs). Here is an example:

Installing Rich Snippets on your site

Login into the Brand Management Platform and navigate to the "Rich Snippet" section (the link is in the side menu of our Marketing Tools). Carefully follow the setup instructions.

We strongly advise not to have this code on multiple pages of your site as this could be against Google SEO Guidelines.

Please note usually you should start seeing stars in Google SERPs within a month however we cannot guarantee that the stars will display for your site, this is entirely at Google's discretion.  

Testing Rich Snippets

Google provides a useful tool to test the installation of your Rich Snippet. Please input the web page where you've installed the code to make sure everything works correctly. 


The Big Don'ts

  • Don't place this code on many pages, this could be against Google Guidelines. We recommend placing it on the "about us" page or a "dedicated review" page (this can be created using our Review Widget).
  • For retailers don't place the Rich Snippet for you Company (merchant reviews) on product pages this would be misleading and against our and Google Guidelines.
